  • WRX Clutch Slipping and Burning After Only One Year

    Hello everyone,

Just joined this group and thought I’d reach out to you for advice.

I have a WRX base that is almost exactly one year old and I’m having clutch problems. Often when I accelerate the RPM jumps but there is no power increase. I took my WRX on a test drive with the Subaru dealership mechanic and he confirmed the clutch is slipping and burning. Now they are quoting me about $680 (tax included) to check out the clutch, and stated it’s unlikely to be covered under any warranty. If it’s considered a “wear” issue, it should cost me about $1700 to replace the clutch. Have any of you heard of this before? Do you have any suggestions as to my best options? I had a VW Jetta TDI for 8 years that was recalled due to dieselgate and never had any problems with the clutch.

Thanks in advance for your consideration,

    Alec
